PTA Reflections

For years, the PTA Reflections Program has encouraged and celebrated creativity among public school students of all ages and Fulbright is honored to be a part of something so special!  Hoping our parents become more familiar with Reflections this year, we encourage students to foster their creative spirit and participate in one or more workshops soon available to them this year.

Students enter the program each year in any of six categories:   (1)  Literature (original stories and poems);   (2) Dance choreography; (3) Film making; (4) Music composition; (5) Visual arts; and (6) Photography.  The students are judged in two age brackets:  K-2nd grade and 3rd  – 5th grade.

The statewide contest accepted more than 900 entries last year and hoping for even more this year!  Proud of forty bright Fulbright students who have entered creative works, some of our own won 2007 silver medal for Music Composition and last year, two Fulbright students, 4th grader, Eve Levi and 1st grader, Merideth West, were our Fulbright winners in the Visual Art category.

Thrilled to collect their awards after a fancy lunch in a packed banquet hall at the state PTA convention in Fort Smith, Arkansas, they got their picture taken with state PTA president, Ginny Kurrus, and had their work displayed in the Fulbright lobby.  We hope more Fulbright students will have similar exciting experiences!

State level gold medal winners are eligible for national recognition and a trip to the National PTA convention so the Fulbright PTA hopes several will enter creative works.  There are more entrants in some than others (e.g., literature and visual arts generally receive the most entries), but we’d like to see students participate in any category that interests them.

The theme for this year’s program is “Beauty is…” students will have broad ranges in which to let their imaginations soar.  To ensure applications comply with regulations, entries are due by Wednesday, November 4, 2009.  Parents, if you have talent in any of the six categories, teach a workshop for kids who want to enter!  For more information, please contact Beth Levi at bethlevi@juno.com or 228-6865 and Debbie West at 227-6409 or west_family0214@att.net.

Beauty is… the diverse and wonderful talent of Fulbright!
