Dear Students and Parents,
Hi!
My name is Mrs. Atkins and I will be your
teacher this year.
This will be my 9th
year at Fulbright and I have had wonderful experiences here because of
the great students, supportive parents, and amazing staff!
I feel so lucky to be part of such a wonderful
team… second grade is very focused on student learning and we like to do
it in fun and exciting ways.
Second grade is a very exciting grade… the
students seem to mature quite a bit during second grade and we strive to
make the children as independent as we can before they move to third
grade.
We enjoy doing hands- on activities, lots of Accelerated
Reader (I LOVE to read!), positive behavior incentives, and using games
and kinesthetic activities to teach concepts.
The second grade team plans together and uses
the same spelling words so that we can stay consistent while preparing
students for third grade.
We will have homework each day except for
Fridays (occasionally, the students will have a week-long project) and
the students will have a spelling test each Friday starting the third week of school.
We will also have math facts tests during the
school year.
I will send home a newsletter each week so that
you will have the spelling words, homework, and information about
anything going on in class.
I use a camping theme is my class and the title
of the newsletter is
If you ever have any questions or information
for me, please feel free to email or call.
Email is easier for me to check during the day,
but I do try to check my messages at the end of the day.
If you are leaving information about how your
child gets home, please call the office in case I am not able to
get to the messages before the students are dismissed.
Thanks! My email is ashley.atkins@lrsd.org and
my class phone is 447-4716.
I am looking forward to meeting your precious
children and getting to know your family.
Having a three year old and a three month old of my own, I
know the amazing love you have for your children and want to assure you
that your child will be loved in my classroom and that their education
and safety will be my top priority.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Atkins
