The kids loved our presentation by the chefs from the Clinton Center.  We got to see them cook a batch of pasta salad and hummus, then we all got samples.  Chef Mike suggests that you make a cardboard cutout of a chef’s knife so your child can practice knife skills at home.  We learned about how much sugar is in soda and juice and what might be a healthier alternative.  They also brought in a small example of the Urban Garden they keep at the center, so the kids could actually see the plants growing in the dirt.   Chef Mike said that of all the schools he’s visited, our kids were the best behaved!

I bought a pack of paper plates and Chef Mike accidentally packed them up with his stuff and took them back to the restaurant!  (Children who eat from lunch boxes get a paper plate each day so they don't have to put their food directly on the cafeteria tables.)  If you could send some more, we'd appreciate it!  Thanks!

Next week we will learn about staying safe.   One of the things we’ll discuss is how to call 911 and give the dispatcher your home address.  If you would, please send your current home address in your child’s folder so we can practice it at school.  If you want to practice at home, too, that would be great.
