Behavior:  I expect the best behavior out of all of the students, but I know that every now and then we all make a mistake.  I have a STAR BEHAVIOR chart in the classroom that I use as a reminder of your child’s daily behavior. Every day the students will start on a green. If they get in trouble they will move their star to a different color. The colors will go as follows:

Green – Start Student!!!

Yellow – 1st Warning (Lose 5 minutes of free time)

Orange – 2nd Warning (Lose all of free time)

Red – Behavior Document, phone call to parents, and/or sent to the principal’s office (depending on     the situation)

There will be a “Star Behavior” chart in your child’s blue folder.  I ask that you look at it daily and initial if your child is NOT on green so I know you are aware of your child’s behavior.  The students who stay on green all week receive a special reward!

Gold Coins: I use gold coins as incentive in my classroom. If I catch a student being good, they answer a hard question, are a good helper, or do something else good behavior wise in the classroom, they will receive a gold coin. First semester, after 5 gold coins they may go to the treasure chest and get a prize. Second semester they will have to collect 10 gold coins to go to treasure chest.

Attendance:  There is a lot going on in kindergarten. It is important that your child is at school and on time! The tardy bell rings at 7:40. We start our day shortly after this and we will be busy! If your child is late they will miss the morning routines which are important for building critical kindergarten skills.  Please give your child the extra edge by arriving on time or even early!

Snacks: Due to our lunch being so early (we go to lunch at 10:30!), we will have a healthy afternoon snack. ALL the students enjoy having a snack, so I ask that ALL the parents help out with providing snacks for the class. Please send some individually wrapped snacks to help fill the snack box.

A few good snack ideas: granola bars, fruit snacks, fruit cups, Goldfish, raisins, Cheez-its, sandwich crackers (peanut butter or cheese).

Parent/Teacher Folder:  This folder is one of the most important components of our communication. I will send home papers, notes, and other important info in this folder. You should check the folder every night and return it to school the next morning. If you have a note for me, send it in the folder. I will check the folders every morning for notes from you. If you send money to school for any reason (lunches, field trip, book order, etc) please put it in the Ziploc bag I will attach inside with a note to inform me what the money is for (lunch money, field trip, etc) so I know where to send it.

Lunch Money:  The cost to buy lunch in the cafeteria is $2.35 and milk is $0.35. If your child is going to be eating school lunches, please make sure there is money in the account, and also check the balance periodically so that the account remains useable.  I encourage everyone to put a few dollars in your child’s lunch account. Even if you do not plan on your child eating school lunches, you never know when something will come up and your child will need one.

Birthdays: A special healthy treat may be brought to school to celebrate birthdays.  Please call or email me at least one day before if you plan to do this so that we can arrange a good time.

Volunteers: I love when parents want to help in the classroom! You are welcome to come and help out if you want! I do ask that you email me ahead of time and arrange it. This way I will be prepared with things for you to do when you come.
